WEDE (WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AND DEVELOPMENT)
This project targets women and girls who have not benefited from
much of formal basic education. The project will help to build
capacity of women and girls out of school in strategic planning
capacities and train them in skills, which can lead to
employment, self-esteem, and income generation for example
tailoring, computer, simple trade skills, bakery, tie and dye
making, knitting, carpentry, crop and animal management, simple
Accounts, nutrition, food processing and many others.
Parents Concern discovered that when these poor women and
girls are trained in skills and no support in form of providing
grants as a start up fund for income generation are given, they
go home and forget about the skill leaned. so it is very
important that after the training they are provided with grants
or soft loans to help them start some income generating activity
using the skill attained. To empower them further we do
introduce them to the Good Governance concepts and leadership
skills and encourage them to initiate, support, train in
technologies that reduce the work load of women. This will help
to promote male participation in the family development
programs. Men need to be persuaded to promote family planning,
birth control, home management, promote gender equity and
equality and advocate against domestic violence. If men
themselves participate in these programs there will be a
positive change in the community. It will just be wonderful for
the families.
Lack of adequate exposure for women keeps them backward. so
the project shall endeavour to organize, facilitate exchange
study trips to encourage exposure and strategic planning among
women. Women are always supported in only small projects. We
would like to support and promote women farmers. traders,
entrepreneurs, teachers/ health workers in private business and
producers. Parents Concern believes that when women have money
the whole family benefits.
